I am in the 4th year under a L1B visa. There may be a round of layoff coming in the next 3 months. But with a L1B visa, technically, I am stuck with the current employee unless I change it to an H1B.
Should I ask my current employer to change my visa to a H1B first, or can I ask the future employer to apply an H1B after I quit my old job? How much time does it take to apply and secure an H1B visa these days? What's the chance of the H1B application being rejected?
Does anyone there have similar experience to share please? I live in Chicago area, if it matters.
Many many thanks!
