Generally you can start new job after you receive the receipt. However, if the new job's starting date is after the receipt date, you have to wait until that date to work for the new employer. There is no problem even in case a RFE is issued assuming the new job is similar (or in the same field) as your current one. If you want close the gap, ask your current employer to delay your last pay. What I meaned in the previous message is that if you work and get caughted by INS as illegal worker during the gap, you will be in trouble. Otherwise, you will be fine.
