You can change your status from J1 to F1 in US but your waiver is required. Holding your waiver and other documents to visit the international student office, they will provide you the sheet or tell you how to adjust your status from J1 to F1 via BCIS. Remember, before you do anything or make any decision about your status, visit the international student office first, they will provide you useful information.
