You can search this forum. There are some debates about this. Some people say that if you use your AP, your H1B status will be changed. However, some people say that you can use AP, and still keep your H1B status (you don't have to apply for EAD.) It seems that we can easily find successful cases in both situations.

I suggest that you ask your school's legal office or human resources office. I'm also working at a university, and I was told that I had to apply for EAD if I use AP. So, be more cautious about this.

About your last question, I don't know.
