Help? Spouse H1B

I have a question regarding to this:
問：我H-1B的簽證時間快用完了。由於目前的倒退排期我的綠卡申請不得不延遲，我還能保持H-1B的合法身份嗎？

　答：如果你早就遞交了I-140申請並獲得了批準，由於目前的倒退排期限製你不能遞交I-485申請，你可以請你所在的公司幫忙，為你申請延長H-1B簽證時間，每次時間最長為三年。如果你的配偶持H-1B 簽證，他／她的身份也可以相應延長。


What I heard is the spouse should have her/his own I140 approved in order to get 3 yrs H1B extension. Your I140 is only good for yourself. That is different with your information. So which one is correct?
