You can file I824? for consulate processing. When it is your turn, you go to Guangzhou U.S. consulate for an immigration visa (not non-immigration visa like H1 etc.).Once you come back to the States, you become GC holder. My friend's mom just immigrate from China. She got her GC within one month after landing the States.
Let me tell you some basic things about GC.
First you file immigration petition, either family-based, or employment-based.
Then you adjust your status from non immigrant to immigrant (this is called AOS, file I485)
The alternative way to adjust your status is CP (consulate processing).
Note that only the U.S. consulate in Guangzhou issues immigrant visas.
Good luck.
No.I485 is for those inside US
