Need help on the timing for applying for the greencard

I just got married to a us citizen. I heard that if I wait till a year later to apply for the greencard, I will get the regular one without going through the conditional greencard. This is assuming that the interview always comes in about 12 months after filing. Is this always the case? Is there a possibility that the interview request could come earlier than 12 months? If you know anything, please share with me! Thanks sooooooo much for your help!
