you have 0 day grace period after being fired and in practice you have 10 days to prepare for leving this country. So basically you have no time to apply a new job if you are suddenly fired. Things can be better with a pending I485. However, if your I140 is company sponsored, you might have the possibility of I480 denial. However, you are more likely to find a nother H1 job before that.
