If they want to stay over 6

months, they have to turn in the old I94 when entering Canada.

Then on their returning trip, they are qualified to get a new I94. Very likely they will be granted a new one with another 6 months.

We didn't do that, since my parents returning date is fixed. They are leaving on the last day of their I94.
