Your status is determined by your I94. Every time you adjust your status, you will receive a new I94, even if you don't leave the US. After using AP, your new I94 is based on AOS, and this implies that you lose your H/L status. The interim ruling simply said H/L holders don't need new EAD to work for their original H/L sponsor.
