If you are 100% sure that

you won't need them in the next year, then you don't need to waste your money. However they can be used as a great insurance for emmergencies, like unpredictable lay-off and family emergencies. Also, you don't have to renew them when they expire.

However, if you are not so confident about your I140, you should be very careful before using AP or EAD, even if you have them.
