New NIW could be faster than

your old EB1. You lose nothing by trying it. As you have noticed, it is pretty fast for NIWs to get approved now.
One friend used most of his old reference letters written for his EB1 in last May + two new letters for his NIW petitition, and his NIW was approved within one month. However, his EB1 is still pending at NSC.
