qustion about h1b extend

does any one know if the extend h1b file filed after expiration date, what will happen? urgent question!!. company's hr is suck, it be 2 months still no update on what's going on. what is the risk if the file filed after expiration date? Should I need to get recept before expiration date or should I need to wait it be approval?
