Is it useful to call USCIS?

I called USCIS today and told them my case passed the current processing date more than 60 days. They took my personal informaion, will make an inquiry for me, and give me a reply within next 30 days.

I just wonder it is useful to have done that?

Anybody has made a similar inquiry and get useful information?

P.S my
RD for 485: 6/7/04, FP 4/5/05, most recent LUD 4/5/05, then no further inforamtion.
