NIW or not? need help

I just graduated in May with PhD degree. Now I am working in a big company (4000 employees). Yesterday I called 2 lawyers to consult GC application. After that, I got depressed by what they told me. They were not optimistic on NIW for me since (1) I don't have much publications (2 conference, 2 journal), (2) my current job position is regarding to technology application, not research. They suggested me to apply through LC. But I don't think the company would like to sponsor my LC application. I feel uncomfortable to talk this issue with my boss since I just started my job for 3 months.
Any suggestions on my situation? Should I apply NIW regardless of what the lawyer said? If yes, what is the possibility of success of my case?
