請問Perm和綠卡可以自己辦嗎

請問Perm(labor certification)和綠卡可以自己辦嗎? 我不想請律師了，我在大學做statistician，H1簽證。另外我和我老婆都是H1，能否個各辦各的再到I485的時候file兩人，這樣每人就有兩份申請是不是更保險呢？請有經驗人指導一下
