H-1 status after using AP

I am a H-1 holder. My I-140 was approved and I-485 is still under processing but I have EAD and AP. I used AP when visiting my family in February of this year. So technically my H-1 is valid only when I stay with current employer. If I switch employer, I have to apply a new H-1. Right now I would like to switch job but I still want to keep my H-1 status. Could someone know if I can start to work as soon as I submit my H-1 application or I have to wait my H-1 gets approved?
