No if you do not inform CIS to change your mailing address for AP (AP could be sent to domestic address or oversea address, depending what you have filled on your application form). As soon as you leave US without approved AP (if the AP is to mail to a US address), your I-485 petition expires at once.
You can go to a local office to get a temporary one, but you have to show solid proof why you do so (e.g, fax from China hospital to show some one was seriouly sick and need your being back.)
