You should submit it. I do not think they will ask you go back to be professor. NIW is the way for US to attract the experts like you to work for US and serve the national interest. That is why they want you to demonstrate you are superior to your peers in the same field (Look at your RFE to see what i guess is right or not). If you are just as common as most Amerians with same minimum qualifications, then there is no reason for you to go through NIW. They will ask you to go through LC. That is why they ask you how the national interest would be adversely affected if you were asked to go through LC.

Just submit it and it won't hurt.
