Americans hate Japanese and can't even look at Japanese too during WWII. And its anti-Japanese sentiment peaked during that time.
There’s another issue. If the characters are not real, then you cannot stop people saying that this movie is fictional, not a documentary. I believe CCP really wanted to make a more convincing movie, correct? If that’s the case, then just make movies based on real people?
If you really want to change how Japanese view its own WWII history, then you have to let Japanese student to learn those through their education in school. Or else, Japanese won’t know that. It’s not that all of them wanted to deny the history. It’s probably because they were never told that in school.
