Former Attorney General Bill Barr's father, Donald Barr, was the headmaster of the Dalton School in New York City when Jeffrey Epstein was hired to teach there. However, Epstein began teaching in September 1974, after Donald Barr had resigned from his position as headmaster. The extent of Donald Barr's involvement in hiring Epstein is unclear.
William Barr himself had no reported personal relationship with Jeffrey Epstein. However, as Attorney General, Barr was significantly involved in the investigation surrounding Epstein's death in prison, which was ruled a suicide. Barr stated that he was initially suspicious but later concluded it was "a perfect storm of screw-ups," according to PBS. He personally reviewed security footage which confirmed no one entered Epstein's cell area on the night of his death, notes ABC News.
Additionally, it's worth noting that Barr's former law firm, Kirkland & Ellis, had previously represented Epstein. Barr recused himself from an investigation into an earlier plea deal Epstein received in Florida, due to his firm's past involvement. However, he did not recuse himself from the case involving the new charges brought against Epstein by the Southern District of New York.
