Princeton University, originally founded as the College of New Jersey, was established in 1746 by a group of New Light Presbyterians who were seeking to create a higher education institution aligned with their beliefs. They were dissatisfied with existing institutions like Harvard and Yale and the Log College, and wanted a new college that would better support their theological perspectives.
