你們哪個人ever challenged your history teacher about something they taught? I did — especially when it came to the story of Thanksgiving. My high school had a student-to-teacher ratio of 8:1, so we had plenty of opportunities to question and debate what we were learning.Do you want to hear how my history teacher explained the first, second, and final national Thanksgiving days?
Or here’s a simpler idea: ask your own children what they’re being taught in school. Better yet, verify it yourself by talking to them directly.
Do you know what book my 7th grader is reading in English class? It’s There There by Tommy Orange. You should look it up — or better yet, read it. It might change how you understand the stories we choose to tell, and the ones we leave out.
