A nationwide protest in the United States, called "Hands Off!" is set to take place on April 5, with protests planned across all 50 states and nearly every major city. The initiative aims to challenge the policies of President Donald Trump and his allies, including Elon Musk while advocating and several prominent activists and organisations are behind it.
The movement describes itself as a response to what it calls a "billionaire takeover" and policies that threaten fundamental freedoms and social programs, as per a report by Newsweek. Groups like Third Act, Indivisible, MoveOn, and Fight Back Table are rallying Americans from various political backgrounds to push back against what they consider an "illegal power grab," the report noted.
According to the organizers, Hands Off! opposes service cuts, price hikes, and proposed reductions in programs such as Medicaid and Social Security. A statement on the movement’s website calls for a "massive, visible, national rejection" of these policies, urging people to mobilize against threats to democracy, job security, and privacy.
Newsweek reported citing a spokesperson of the 'Hands Off! movement' that over 1,000 events have been scheduled nationwide. These will include rallies, demonstrations, educational sessions and digital protests. Some events will feature speeches from individuals affected by these policies, the spokesperson said. The events will take place at various times, with some scheduled for the morning and others set for the afternoon.
