ASML uses American technologies such as light, lasers,

lenses, and mirrors in its lithography systems. These systems are central to the process of making microchips, and use light to print patterns on a silicon wafer.  The system's optics shrink and focus the pattern onto the wafer, and the system then moves the wafer slightly and makes another copy on the wafer. This process is repeated until the wafer is covered in patterns.

 

The most important thing is under export regulations of the United States, those technologies are not permitted to be exported abroad. This is the main reason why ASML has to move here but not any other countries.
