US not listening to Hamas leader’s ‘solution’: AJ analyst
The US is “not paying attention” to what Hamas is saying, Al Jazeera’s senior analyst Marwan Bishara says.
Bishara said Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, in a live address that we reported on earlier today, shifted his tone and offered a “solution” – but it is a solution that is likely “going to fall on deaf ears” amid the West’s continued backing of Israel.
Haniyeh went “beyond what Hamas usually talks about, which is defeating the enemy and that kind of PR, to talking about a Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital”, Bishara said.
“This is a new political tone … This is not going to work in Washington,” he explained. “I think when Washington talks about what’s after, they mean what’s after the destruction of Hamas, and probably Gaza along with it.”
