The West is set to announce a fresh set of sanctions targeting the Russian economy and those who support Moscow’s war in Ukraine.
Details are expected to follow today’s G7 meeting, during which Volodymyr Zelensky, president of Ukraine, held a press conference. It is known that about 200 individuals and other entities will be targeted in the sanctions. As well as Russians and Russian companies, they will also affect people and organisations in Europe, the Middle East and Asia, including a number in China.
They are being sanctioned after being accused of providing Moscow with materials that it would otherwise have secured from countries that curtailed trading relations with Russia after its invasion of Ukraine. Russia is known to have turned to China to replace trading partners it once had in Europe.
