Sunday, after several days of intense heat waves, since the morning, raining for hours and hours, only that church bell sound brought us some consoling…

Afternoon, suddenly, lovely Sun showing up. The mood is cheered up immediately.

A local German TV channel 14, Arte.tv, is broadcasting in Germany language. Arte (Association Relative à la Télévision Européenne) is a Franco-German TV network. In North America, there is a similar tv channel name "Arte", 24 x 7 broadcasting Arte programes, but only with short video excerptions, not the full programs. One of the title is "Churchills größtes Spiel", it's a documentary in Germany, tells us the WWII history. The way this documentary organized is quite unusual from the point of view of some Eastern people. Lots of black-white historical photos, accompanied with lots of cartoons, drawings of Churchill, Roosevelt, Stalin, original German military marching song “Komerade, Komerade”(didn't catch enough time to write down the song title), Katyn Massacre (卡廷慘案), Gulag（古拉格，參見1970年諾貝爾文學獎得主亞曆山大・索爾仁尼琴的史詩般巨著《古拉格群島》），Yalta Talks (雅爾塔會談). There is a name to be mentioned, Hugh Lunghi, he recalled those unforgettable historical moments. Hugh Lunghi is thought to be the first Briton to have entered Hitler's Berlin bunker and was one of Winston Churchill's interpreters at the key conferences with Josef Stalin, Franklin Roosevelt and Harry Truman...

Winston Churchill gehörte zu den wenigen Politikern, die sich gegen die Appeasement-Politik aussprachen. Er war ganz und gar nicht einverstanden mit den Beschwichtigungen und dem Nachgeben in Bezug auf die Aggressionspolitik Hitlers. Mit seiner Ernennung zum Premierminister zu Beginn des Zweiten Weltkrieges wurde Churchill dann zum "Helden der Stunde".
Die Dokumentation zeigt das Porträt eines begabten Redners und Staatsmannes, der bis heute ein hohes Ansehen genießt. Dabei wird auch das Treffen Churchills mit Stalin erstmals anhand exklusiven Materials untersucht. Und aufwendige Animationen greifen die Schlüsselszenen des Machtspiels in Europa um 1940 auf.

Winston Churchill gilt als Galionsfigur Großbritanniens. Er ist bekannt als der Mann, der seine Nation durch den Zweiten Weltkrieg geführt hat, und als ein Held, der für die Befreiung Europas steht. Doch war Churchill wirklich dieser strahlende Retter? Der britische Premierminister hat hoch gepokert und dabei das Versprechen gebrochen, für das sein Land in den Krieg gezogen ist: die Rettung Polens.
"Ich habe nichts anzubieten außer Blut, Mühe, Tränen und Schweiß", verkündet Winston Churchill am 10. Mai 1940, dem Tag, an dem die Deutschen über Frankreich herfallen. Und es gelingt ihm mit seiner mitreißenden Rede, die englische Nation auf seine Seite zu ziehen. Churchill wird zur Ikone des Kampfes gegen Nazi-Deutschland. Doch nicht nur gegen Hitler muss Churchill bestehen. Im Kampf um ein freies Europa gibt es noch weitere Akteure, vor allem Josef Dschugaschwili aus Moskau, besser bekannt als Stalin, und Franklin D. Roosevelt, der Präsident der USA. Churchill wird gezwungen, in den Machtpoker um Europa einzusteigen.
Am Ende muss man in Winston Churchill einen tragischen Helden erkennen, einen Mann, der nicht nur angetreten ist, um sein Land zu retten, sondern auch, um seinem Bündnispartner Polen zur Seite zu stehen. Doch am Ende muss er resignieren, und sein Amt als Premierminister übernimmt in der Stunde des größten Triumphes ein anderer, nämlich Clement Attlee, der Churchill noch während der Potsdamer Konferenz im Juli 1945 als Premierminister folgt.

In über 2.000 Stunden wurden Animationen nach dem Vorbild des erfolgreichen Kinofilms "Waltz with Bashir" von Ari Folman geschaffen, die Winston Churchill an den wegweisenden Punkten seiner Karriere porträtieren. Mit viel Liebe zum Detail haben die Künstler markante Eigenschaften nachgezeichnet, wie etwa Churchills Victory-Zeichen oder die immer präsente Zigarre. Die Animationen zeigen den britischen Premier in seiner "schwersten Stunde" ebenso wie als Gast im Zarenpalast Stalins. Bisher teilweise ungezeigtes Archivmaterial ergänzt den Blick auf die Neuaufteilung Europas.

At the same time, we all recall, Yesterday, July 7^th, is the 75 anniversary of Lugou Bridge Incident (盧溝橋事變). Is there any documentary to recall that historical event? A documentary film in Japanese? Did He Yingqin's interpreter, Wang Wu（王武） leave any historical documentation and memoir? In August 1945, when Japan announced its unconditional surrender, Wang Wu was He Yingqin's interpreter...

Right after that documentary, the same German TV channel, broadcasting a short news about Chancellor Merkel visited France today, accompanied by French President Hollande.
