Assuming what Bible said is true. You had hard time to accept Old testment. I was too. But think about, God's only son, Christ was killed on cross. It was as cruel as cruel can be. So if you think God is cruel, you have to agree He is cruel to himself as well.

So all those serve as some purpose. And death is ultimate cruel, but nobody can escape it. Again, we still need to belieave there is a heaven, and God is Allmighty (He can break, and He can build), to make sense all of adversaries in this world. With this perspective, I saw no conflicts in Bible.
