Read "Excellence without Soul" by a former dean of Harvard College and you'll see that among the milling crowd not a few soulless people are like G.W. Bush. at Harvard.
Let me add too that American students are also intellectually timid. Doubly hobbled by their religion and their patriotism, they could rarely "think outside the box" of their ideological upbringing and their religiosity. They will perhaps report me to the Provost if, say, I assign them to read Bertrand Russel's "Why I am not a Christian." Few could even understand the language (let alone the thoughts encoded within) Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn's speech at Harvard decades back. That English professor at Emory University is correct in saying we have the dumbest generation of college students now. Welcome to Harvard.
