For example, for being the national symbol, Most people would probably prefer Kiwi, which is a kind of native bird, (not the fruit, the fruit is native to China, which is called 獼猴桃. They re-cultured them and re-named them Kiwi fruit). Because of this unique bird, New Zealanders also called themselves Kiwis.
