Twenty four years after their comedic debut on TV, Edina (Jennifer Saunders) and Patsy (Joanna Lumley) will star in a full-length feature film that will see them become entangled in a media storm, relentlessly pursued by the paparazzi after being blamed for a major incident at a fashionable launch party. They flee penniless to the French Riviera and decide to make their escape plan permanent. Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie, is due to be released on July 1, 2016.
Gwendoline Christie & Giles Deacon are set to make a cameo
A very well-placed mole has exclusively revealed to the Telegraph that in addition to Kate and Stella, the film is set to be packed with a host faces from all corners of the industry. Our source claims that Condé Nast editors Kate Reardon (of Tatler) and Dylan Jones (of GQ) were all approached about having cameos in the film - alongside Vogue fashion director Lucinda Chambers and model Abbey Clancy.
As you'd expect from Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley they've also signed up some of the most colourful characters in British fashion. Bespectacled fashion designer Giles Deacon and Star Wars actress Gwendoline Christie have filmed scenes for the upcoming movie - along with reformed Primrose Hill party-girls Pearl Lowe and Sadie Frost, who are no doubt there to make Patsy and Edina look well-connected.
It’s also rumoured that British singers Ella Eyre and Tinie Tempah have filmed their parts, too.
Handbag queen Anya Hindmarch and her bags will also feature
Anya Hindmarch has been spotted in the background of filming for Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie and the bag designer has finally confirmed that she will be joining what is shaping up to be an unmissable line-up. “It’s a dream come true, and just lovely,” the accessories mastermind told WWD. She will feature alongside one of her creations: a red handbag adorned with a ‘men at work’ sign (pictured below).
Kate Moss most likely gets killed off
Pictures of a sequin-clad Moss emerging from the Thames with a glass of bubbly and a ‘ciggie’ made our day last November.
All bets are on her meeting a watery end as a riverside shrine dedicated to the famous model was spotted during filming. We were also intrigued to see French fashion designer Jean Paul Gaultier, toting a metal detector, arm in arm with Moss along the riverbank…
Stella McCartney is game too
When we chatted to McCartney at her Christmas party, she dropped an enormous hint that she too would be starring in the show. This isn’t so difficult to believe as Edina and Patsy turned on her festive lights, accompanied her to the British Fashion Awards and have persuaded the stylish designer to star in previous TV episodes of Ab Fab.
