發現中國人最善良，最包容了，比如說，永遠不吝最美好的詞匯譯給一些外來的名字。你看，英國---英明英武之國；美國---美麗美好之國；再看看，可口可樂，寶馬，奔馳。。。而這次，對於第一支闖入中國大陸的英國搖滾樂隊Wham!，也毫不吝嗇，給了個信達雅的中文名字叫威猛。
那時候，大陸的音樂之門，對外剛剛撬開了一道門縫，隻有幸運和勇敢的人才能率先進來。喬治·邁克爾和安德魯·維治利就是其中兩個最帥最勇敢的幸運之星。
現在看來，這倆個帥哥兒應該是那個年代真正紅遍全球的國際巨星，因為隻有他們做到了紅遍中國！
那時侯，中國的當紅女歌星是誰呢？對，是成方圓。這位才女與威猛樂隊合作，用中文翻唱了一集威猛的作品。其中，印象比較深刻的是那首《HeartBeat》，直到今天，副歌部分的旋律仍在耳邊：
原唱唱到：
Heartbeat, heartbeat, what do you bear me now?
Oh you hurt me, desert me in my darkest hour…….
而成方圓唱到：
可惜，可惜，可惜現實難如我意
哦，我知道，我不能，不能愛你。。。。。。
一貫以含蓄見長的中文，這次，居然填了如此不含蓄的歌詞！可見，當時人們內心是有股迫不及待的情緒正在蠢蠢欲動的。隻是，成方圓還沒有可能將這種情緒爆發出來。事實上，她的重新演繹柔化了威猛原作品的曲風，將搖滾樂變成了通俗歌曲。
然而，另外一些人，一些當時的無名之輩，他們的心卻悄然地被這種名叫搖滾的音樂點燃。可以不誇張地說，正是威猛樂隊的到來，催生了中國的搖滾樂。因為在威猛樂隊的歌迷中，就有後來一大批中國的搖滾先鋒，比如竇唯。。。
其實，不光是大陸，威猛樂隊給香港樂壇帶來的衝擊也是巨大的。當時，以許冠傑為代表的粵語流行歌曲雖已開創出一片新天地，但仍然是處於哈日階段，即大多還在翻唱日本的流行歌曲。許冠傑的巔峰作品《日本娃娃》，描述了當時香港最時髦的年輕人的樣子，而在諸多時髦中，能“飛身上台唱Careless Whispers”，又是時髦中的時髦！可見，威猛樂隊當時在香港之風靡。。。
三十年過去了，當年的無數時髦早已成為雞毛，當年的威猛估計也已經微軟。不過，內心深處總留著那麽一個角落：在那裏，總有一道風景叫當年的搖滾老炮兒；在那裏，總有一種情懷叫今天哥高興也憤怒；在那裏，總有一種柔軟叫Don’t Break My Heart；在那裏，總有一種呐喊叫Careless Whispers。。。
