Autumn cicada
This is a campus folk song, which has been sung for over 30 years. The song was written by Li, Zi Heng. Li secretly wrote it at his political combat class when he was in the army 30 years ago. He took only 20 minutes to finish it.
“Listen, I (cicada) can make spring water cold. Look, I can turn green leaves yellow. Who said that autumn is sad? Mist covered water inside a forest is serene and peaceful.” The song lyrics vividly use personification to give significant meaning to the beauty of autumn.
(Autumn cicada)
Listen, I (Cicada) can turn spring water cold.
Look, I can turn green leaves yellow.
誰道秋下一心愁 who said autumn is all sadness?
Mist covered water and trees bring deep calmness.
Red flowers are fading away,
Maples leaves are turning red,
Spreading wings to soar like swallows,
Can my summer blouse resist the cold tomorrow?
It is autumn after all.
Gone is spring/summer, here comes autumn.
When autumn is gone, no more beauty will stay.
Hold on to spring.Don’t let it slip away.
