A Barred Owl

I have never imaged
how I am going to encounter a wild owl
No, not up on the branches or rooftop
as movies show
A barred owl stood right on our side streets
busy tucking the feather under the belly
had to drive very slowly around it
and saw it took off with a wide span of wings
from the rear-view mirror
not particularly alarmed either
Still though
did not hear the hooting call
"Who cooks for you? Who cooks for you-all?"
