Pet words

(2007-04-25 12:51:01) 下一個

I like loud words. Words that shout and grab one's attention as in: "I like blatant words".

I don't like to use a plain descriptive such as "very". If something is only very, not fantastic, marvelous or horrendous, then it's not even very. "Very" is its own very enemy.

My pet words are typically a word that modifies or dramatizes an adjective. To me, an adjective describes the nature of something, and then my pet word showcases how far that nature extends its impact.

For example: the weather is depressingly mild.

For my pet words, I keep a mental notebook - anytime I chance into a potentially attractive word, I note it down. Then I wait for the opportunity when I can use it, before I own it.

Words are amusing creatures. Sometimes a word will show up in a sentence uninvited and if you ask it: what are you doing here? It will answer: well, I look good in here, don't I?

Certainly my dear, gorgeously so.
