Life’s Simple Joys

(2005-04-16 17:29:11) 下一個

I felt exhilarated and exuberant this morning.

As a starter, today’s weather is GORGEOUS! A little windy but the sunshine all but makes up for it.

I began the day with an appointment of taking my car to the auto center for an oil change. After dropping the car off, I decided to take a stroll to kill the hour.

Starved, I went into a deli across the street for a breakfast sandwich (bacon egg and cheese yes thank you) and a coffee. They were delicious!

Full and quite energized, I walked toward the direction to the town center where there is a nice shopping area, not your garden variety strip malls, but almost extinct pedestrian streets with neat shops along the road.

Two “discoveries” on my way there. I finally found the liquor store in this neighborhood! And not too far from the liquor store, there is also a French restaurant that doesn’t look too shabby.

The town center! Cafés, galleries, boutique shops. My oh my. Wandered in and out of one door after another, blissfully. Life is beautiful!

Not intending to spend (any more!) I settled in a bookstore. And I landed right into the cooking book section. All the colorful mouth watering books. Dear babies. Dear pricey babies.

After thumbing through the glossy picturesque pages of the cook books by such “celebrities” (haha) as the Naked Chef (my absolute favorite), Barefoot Contessa, and the chef with an attitude Anthony Bourdain, I ended up in a sofa with an interesting book called French Women Don’t Get Fat. After reading a good part of it and having learned a couple of simple yet yum recipes suddenly it occurred to me that the auto place probably would close early since it’s weekend.

Raced back. Got the car. Totally released. Filled up the gas. And PAID A VISIT TO THE LIQUOR STORE. Guess what? Free wine tasting on Saturday! It doesn’t get any better than this. One red and one white safely in the car, I wrapped up my day’s outing with a trip to the grocery store. Had to have tulips. Can’t resist their temptation. They are God’s gift to the human hearts.

Smiling broadly, I drove back home. I had a great time. Life is good.

(Though the natural high pretty much worn off by now, I wanted to record the moments when I felt that life is AWESOME.

And how sunshine and brisk walks did the trick that a shrink can’t do.)
