友人送來消遣的郵件，說華盛頓郵報有個專欄叫Mensa Invitational，有點像挑戰智力的遊戲。mensa是拉丁文，等於英文的table。用拉丁mensa而不用英文table，本省就暗示了邀請大家來玩的是種文詞遊戲。
這次郵報要讀者做的是: 從詞典裏取人一個詞，然後加一個字母或減一個字母或改一個字母，使得原來的詞變成一個新造的詞並且提供新詞的確定義。這新造詞要的是一般詞典裏還沒有列的但是大多數人會認同你的新造詞及其定義。
今年郵報選出十五個這樣的新造詞，它提醒人注意這十五個"假冒新詞"，對任何一個隻要改動其中的一個字母(或增或減或改)，你就可以還原出原來那個"正經"的英文詞。
讀了這樣的描述，一時玩興上來，就想看看這十五個新編的詞是個什麽樣，它們每個又從哪兒來(從哪個正經英文詞變來)。下麵就列出這十五個郵報Mensa Invitational編列的新造詞以及我"破解"的各詞的來源:
1. intaxication -- 郵報定義: euphoria at getting a tax refund, which lasts until you realize it was your money to start with.
中文譯義: 拿到退稅後感覺就是爽，直至你意識這錢本來就是你的。
來源: intoxication -- 醉酒喝高後的感覺，是個常用詞。將該詞拚寫中的第一個o替換成a，變得intaxication。我認為這詞變得好，想法詞義拚寫俱佳，所以列第一。
2. reintarnation -- 郵報定義: coming back to life as a hillbility。
中文譯義: 從深山老林裏冒出來的人複活了。
來源: reincarnation -- 精靈(或神靈)變成了人。將字母c替換為t就成了reintarnation。但reintarnation中不見hillbility蹤影，所以列第二。hillbility -- a person from a backwoods area；backwoods -- 遠離城市沒有人跡的林地。
3. bozone -- 郵報定義: the substance surrounding stupid people that stops bright ideas from penetrating.
中文譯義: 蠢人周圍的那些阻滯人腦變得聰敏起來的東西。
來源: ozone -- 臭氧，一種irritating gas of pungent odor. 人被ozone圍著呼吸有困難，人被bozone圍著腦子不靈。這詞取意讀音拚寫也都不錯，我認為應列第二。
4. cashtration -- 郵報定義: the act of buying a house, which renders the subject financially impotent for an indefinite period.
中文譯義: 購置房產行為；(在美國)買房會使購買者在經濟上長期"陽萎不舉"(一般都是三十年)。
來源: castration -- 太監的淨身、動物的閹割。在字母s後添置h就成cashtration。castration讓男人(或公物)在生理上不再雄性，cashtration讓房主經濟上不再強壯。三十年長期房貸，把人的cash都剝奪走了。這詞的取義切題讀音拚寫編的最好，應該列第一。
5. giraffiti -- 郵報定義: vandalism spray-painted very very high.
中文譯義: (大街上損人財物的)塗鴉而且塗在高處不易擦掉。
來源: graffiti -- 歡慶時撒的象雪花一樣飄的彩紙。在字母r前加進i，新詞就是giraffiti了。歡慶時用的彩紙粉末，飄的到處都是，其實也是一種"汙染"，和塗鴉相似。
6. sarchasm -- 郵報定義: the gulf between an author of sarcastic wit and a person who doesn't get it.
中文譯義: 一位有諷刺智慧的作家和不能理解諷刺的讀者之間的智能差距。
來源: sarcasm -- 諷刺。在字母c後加h成sarchasm，指的是作家和讀者智慧上的差距。加字母h後，後半截chasm正好是"差距"的意思(chasm = deep cleft, gorge, gulf, difference, division, 等)，可把sarchasm譯成"傻差距"。
7. inoculatte -- 郵報定義: to take coffee intravenously when you are running late.
中文譯義: (上班或約會)要遲到時因著急緊張而猛喝咖啡。
來源: inoculate -- 注射(疫苗)。在字母t之前再加一個t，成inoculatte。為預防疾病我們往人體裏注射疫苗(inoculate)，上班遲到時我們往肚裏猛灌咖啡(inoculatte)，這個詞好像編的也還可以，缺陷是在inoculatte的拚寫中不見coffee的蹤影。
8. hipatitis -- 郵報定義: terminal coolness.
中文譯義: 最終的瀟灑? 對這詞有點不太明白，還請高手指點迷津。是不是說那些瀟灑的男女有點太瀟灑了(如過於沉湎在煙酒之中)，如果不加醫治有有生命危險?
來源: hepatitis -- A或B型肝炎。字母e換成i就是hipatitis。這有點意思，煙酒人生，要的就是hipatitis，但到頭來可能要得hepatitis。為了瀟灑就甘用生命來冒險? 也許遠離煙酒的人生才是真瀟灑。
9. osteopornosis -- 郵報定義: a degenerate disease.
中文譯義: 一種(人體變老)退化疾病。
來源: osteoporosis -- 骨質疏鬆症。將最後一個字母o前加字母n，就有了osteopornosis。
10. karmageddon -- 郵報定義: it's like, when everybody is sending off all these really bad vibes, right? And then, like, the Earth explodes and it's, like, a serious bummer.
中文譯義: 就好像每個人都送出劇烈顫動，然後地球爆炸，後果嚴重。
來源: armageddon -- 正義與非正義戰爭的最後決戰。在手字母a前加字母k，新詞就是karmageddon。
11. decafalon -- 郵報定義: the grueling event of getting through the day consuming only things that are good for you.
中文譯義: 懲罰性事件 -- (因不平時不注意飲食)每天隻能吃有益健康的食物。
來源: decafe alone -- 隻能(吃)不含咖啡因(?)。這是我猜的，知道正確答案的請幫忙。不過似乎有些道理: 對不注意飲食亂吃的人(尤其有胃病的)，醫生會囑咐不要喝帶咖啡因的飲料。
12. glibido -- 郵報定義: all talk and no action。
中文譯義: 光說不練。
來源: libido -- 性衝動，源自人的帶動物本能的感情和心裏衝動。在詞頭加字母g就成了glibido。那些光說不練騙MM的主，口若懸河時很可能其心裏層麵正是受了動物本能的刺激。
13. Dopeler effect -- 郵報定義: the tendency of stupid ideas to seem smarter when they come to you rapidly.
中文譯義: 這詞說的是這樣一種傾向 -- 有些愚蠢的主意猛地出現時看上去好像是好主意。
來源: Doppler effect -- (雷達)多普勒效應。去掉Doppler中第二個p改為e，就成Dopeler effect。
14. beelzebug -- 郵報定義: Satan in the form of a mosquito, that gets into your bedroom at three in the morning and cannot be cast out.
中文譯義: 以蚊子形式出現的撒旦，它在早晨三點進你的房間並且趕都趕不走。
來源: beelzebub -- 魔鬼。最後的字母b改成g後，就是新詞beelzebug。
15. ignoranus -- 郵報定義: a person who is both stupid and a butthead.
中文譯義: 又蠢又笨的人。
來源: ignoramus -- 無知的人 (an utterly ignorant person, dunce)。
注: 其實《郵報》列了十七個，另兩個是arachnoleptic fit和caterpallor。arachnoleptic fit的定義是: the frantic dance performed just after you've accidentally walked through a spider web。但實在想不出arachnoleptic是來自於哪一個英文詞。caterpallor的定義是: the color you turn after finding half a worm in the fruit you're eating。caterpallor的原型詞看上去像是caterpillar，但從caterpillar到caterpallor需要做兩處字母改動
arachnoleptic: you can change it to arachnoletic. This is an adj. referring to treating arachnoiditis by loosening them up using instrument or medicine. I guess my littel medical vacabulary helped.
