哦，生命啊！關於這些反反複複出現的問題，
那些毫無信仰的人群川流不息，那些充斥著愚昧的城市，
我在永遠責備自已（誰又比我更愚昧，更加沒有信仰？）
那些徒然渴望光明的眼睛，那些淺陋的目的，那些奮鬥周而複始
所有人的那些可憐的結局，我眼見的周圍那些人群單調而汙穢；
其他人那些空虛無益的年歲，我和其他人也糾纏在一起；
哦，這問題！那麽悲哀，那麽反反複複 --
生命啊！生活在這一切中有什麽意義？
答案：
那就是說你在這裏 - 就是說生命存在，還有個體；
就是說充滿活力的戲劇仍在繼續，而你可以貢獻一首詩。

試譯此詩是為了紀念今天去世的一代喜劇天才 Robin Williams （1951-2014）。
在1989年的電影《Dead Poets Society》（死亡詩社）中，Robin Williams 有下列台詞：
“We don't read and write poetry because it's cute. We read and write poetry because we are members of the human race. And the human race is filled with passion. And medicine, law, business, engineering, these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love, these are what we stay alive for.

惠特曼曾寫道：

影評對 Robin Williams 主演的這部電影褒貶不一。貶者常講這片子煽情、過於理想化、人物簡單、對話膚淺。有道理。但是這畢竟是一部中學生電影，而中學生電影沒必要非有卡夫卡、加繆的影子。）
