Last Friday, I took my elder son to the public library because he wanted to check out some books. We checked out some ACT preparation books and some young adult novels. Among all the books there was this one called Twilight by Stephenie Meyer. My son was reading the other books, and he particularly recommended me to read the Twilight. He said that his teacher loved that book and it was for high school kids. I listened to him and started to read the book. It surprised me that as soon as I started I could not stop. The whole Saturday I was reading the book, I fed my children and my husband in between the chapters. It was such a delightful experience which I had not have for a long time. As an old Chinese saying goes, I loved it so much that I could not put it down.

The book is about a high school girl, Bella Swan, who falls in love with a classmate, Edward Cullen, who happens to be a vampire. Meyer’s description of romantic feelings is enticing and her portrait of fantastic situations is natural. The book’s suspenseful ending is also a pleasant lure. The female protagonist asked her vampire boyfriend to bite her so she can become a vampire and be with him for the eternity. The story ends when the girl feels the teeth of her lover on her throat. The readers are left with the suspense of whether her boyfriend will bite her or not. To find that out, one needs to read the sequel of the novel: New Moon.
