The NSF supports a wide range of quantum information science and engineering (QISE) research and development initiatives, including: 
  • Quantum Computing: Developing functional quantum computers to solve complex problems in various fields, including materials science.
  • Quantum Sensors: Researching and developing new sensor technologies that utilize quantum phenomena for highly precise measurements in areas like medicine and geology.
  • Quantum Communications: Exploring quantum phenomena like entanglement for secure data protection and communication networks.
  • Quantum Materials: Investing in research to understand and control quantum phenomena to design and fabricate novel quantum materials with desired properties.

I know a little bit on fiber communication laser design using quantum theory (bandgap engineering). Those laser colors are so closely spaced. I have a friend involved in quantum materials design project at Harvard. Perhaps ok if it is tied to material?
