Can I use my Check Card in foreign countries?
You can use your Check Card to make purchases at millions of locations all over the world. You can also withdraw money at more than 1 million ATMs in 162 countries. Money will be dispensed in local currency. An International Service Assessment (ISA) fee of 1% will be applied to each international transaction. To learn more about currency conversion or to use Visa's exchange rate calculator, please visit Visa's currency exchange Web site.

If you are going to spend extended time in UK, and need to use ATM a lot, recommend you to get a BofA account, just for the free ATM access thru Barclays.
Barclays is one of the biggest banks in UK, and its branches /and ATMs are very easy to locate in London and beyond. We did our 2nd ATM withdrawal in London at Kings Cross Train Station - there is a Barclays ATM right at the station corner.
