I think Ohua could be stay longer, especially you have parents and little kid. Wakiki in ohua is more convenient and moden, diamond head is nearby and hanauma bay is super good for snorkling with colorful fishes and shallow& calm water. Old chinese people might like Ohua better. 5 days in Big island is too too long. Besides volcano, the rest of areas is like other beaches in other places. In addition, I will not recommend to stay in Hilo, too much rain because of the mountains. The hotels in Hilo is usually cheaper than those in Kona. Actually Maui is a very good place to go. The driving in Big island is not bad at all. Driving Maui might be a little bit challenge.
