Glad to know that you are passionate to go! I have to say it is really worth going if you want to taste some “culture” while traveling. Just so you know that if you go, be sure 1) take a company with you; 2) have a better-conditioned vehicle----4X4 preferred; and last but not the least, make sure you have enough gas before you rush into the desert, or ”再好的寶馬（BMW),也要成為挪不動窩的死馬”. Being remote and isolated in the desert, there are no large-scale human settlements in a radius of over a hundred miles except some scattered tiny Indian communities. If you stay there overnight (BTW, the campsite is well-facilitated), you might have an opportunity to watch the Milky Way through astro-scope as there is astronomy observatory there and they host “watching Sky” program during the evening.
