There are few good off-shore snorkeling spots. You'll likely have to take a snorkeling tour. You should be able to find some from Biscayne NP or state parks on the Keys.
Little Hanava is ok to go around during daytime, especially if you are careful and always drive defensively. Cuban food is simlar to Mexican, good (if you like it) and affordable.
