We see different things in this essay.

I take it as an art, an expression of feelings. Bring me into her first experience abroad. There is nothing about logic. It is beyond kindness to help others and being helped.

Lone travelers are more or less attracted to the opposite sex. In many cases, it is not they are looking for playmates but it is human nature.

You may not agree but that is how I interprete her writing. I remember you made similar comments about another writing of her: the return of salmons. This time I visited Pacific Northwest twice in a month. I know that the rich soil there, on which huge trees grow and wild flowers blooming, is due to the nutrients salmons bringing back to where they were born. It is in their life program but as land animals, we human, at least some of us, do have our gratitude.
