I know very few people read the rental contract fine print, but if you do, you will see the rental car company WILL charge the fine their cars received, plus about 50 euro Admin fee.
Dont forget your credit card info is with the rental car company, even the local one.
Though IF the fine does not belong to you (happened to us in South Africa) you can dispute that and the card issuer will take care of you. But if it is legitimate, with the invoice of the fine and the offense, clearly matched with the rental car info, within the same period you rented the car, card issuer will side with the rental car companies.
