一種叫牛奶子的植物

牛奶子，學名Elaeagnus umbellata Thunb.，是胡頹子科胡頹子屬的落葉灌木。

牛奶子的名稱來源於其果實成熟時，果肉呈乳白色，汁液豐富，形似牛奶，因此得名。牛奶子的名稱既形象又貼切地描述了這種植物的果實特點，最終被《中國植物誌》采納為正式名稱。

牛奶子生長地的居民都有生食牛奶子果實的習慣。牛奶子果實味酸甜，富含糖、酸，且富含人體必需的氨基酸及多種礦質元素和維生素，是一種天然的飲料資源，可以開發利用其果實釀酒、配製果汁飲料，並可製作果醬等。

牛奶子耐寒性強，耐修剪，略耐陰，喜光，喜濕潤、肥沃、排水良好的土壤，常生長於向陽的林緣、灌叢中，荒坡上和溝邊。
