Chinese cultural revolution left china poor and backward. Got rid of the landlord so peasants starved in great leap forward. Persecuted the doctors watching to live the film nurses couldn't cure the patients. But the pain of being poor and backward woke china up. And china under deng propelled forward and now have the second highest gdp in the world.
