蛇像所有其他爬行動物一樣是冷血動物。雖然被稱為冷血動物，但並不意味著它們的血液是真正冷的，它們隻是在外界溫度變化時無法保持恒定的體溫。當它們的體溫下降時，它們不會出現hypothermia 而對溫血動物確是致命情況，相反，它們的新陳代謝會減慢甚至停止。當環境溫度升高時，它們的體溫也會升高，新陳代謝率也會恢複，因此它們會再次變得活躍。即使是【爬行動物】(I) croc and gator 鱷生活在水中的爬行動物也需要到岸邊曬太陽。這裏所有的動物都有曬太陽的燈。當我在那裏時，許多動物一動不動，隻是在燈光下曬太陽。這條鑽石響尾蛇是比較活躍的，看起來很有好奇心。
Snakes like all other reptiles are cold-blooded animals. Though called cold-blooded, it doesn't mean their blood is truly cold, they just can't maintain constant body temperature when outside temperature changes. When their body temperatures drop, they won't suffer hypothermia which is fatal to warm-blooded creatures, instead, their metabolisms slow down or even stop. When the environmental temperatures rise their body temperatures go up and metobolic rate recover so they become active again. Even the reptiles living in water also need to bask on the bank in order to warm up their bodies. All the animals have basking lights in their captivities. Many of them in the zoo were motionless only basking under the lights when I was there. This diamondback rattlesnake is one of the active ones, seems very inquisitive.
